A Sacred Concerto for Improvised Solo Violin and Orchestra.

Fountain of Tears has its origin in a verse from the Hebrew scripture “O that my head were a spring of water, and my eyes a fountain of tears, so that I might weep day and night for the slain of my poor people.” (Jeremiah 9:1) This music was originally scored as a setting of a cycle of poems called “The Seven Last Words of Christ,” written and read by poet Gary Wiens, depicting the seven last spoken statements of Jesus Christ from the cross. Upon hearing this work performed, Rick Wienecke, a sculptor living in Israel, was inspired to create a fountain, that depicts the drama of these poems, and attempts to speak to the issue of human suffering, and most especially to the suffering of the Jewish people. The violin used by Ruth Fazal for this recording was the Steiner Schweitzer J.B. Guadagnini 1771. Thank you to Peter Miller for the use of the violin for this occasion.
