AWAKENING
AWAKENING is a work for symphony orchestra and choirs which invites us to engage our imaginations as we encounter God in the sound of a distant trumpet, awakening us to the urgency of the hour in which we live. The Trumpeter calls us to come away with him, and through the music we are then ushered into an entirely new realm until finally, in the place of worship, we become aware of the sound of all creation groaning. In the midst of this groaning, God’s voice sings out : “Comfort My people! Speak tenderly to Jerusalem” . What will be our response?

JERUSALEM SUITE (included on AWAKENING) (2010)
An Intercession for Israel – https://youtu.be/rEb0QFNwOF4
“On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have set watchmen; all the day and all the night they shall never be silent. You who put the Lord in remembrance, take no rest, and give him no rest until he establishes Jerusalem and makes it a praise in the earth.” (Isaiah 62:6-7)
The grouping of these three short movements is not a ‘suite’ in the musical sense of the word, but in that each movement has a particular reference to Jerusalem and Israel.

Oratorio Terezin is a full length work scored for orchestra, children’s choir, adult choir, and three vocal soloists. Set in the context of the Holocaust, using children’s poetry which miraculously survived from the ghetto of Terezin, woven together with passages from the Hebrew scriptures.
Over 15, 000 children passed through Terezin, of whom only one hundred survived. The poignant innocence of their poetry, set against the cry of ‘How long will the wicked exult?’ causes us to come face to face with the testing of faith, in the context of unspeakable human suffering and deprivation.
The musical style is both dramatically intense, and sweetly lyrical. The juxtaposition of the children’s and adult’s voices, along with those of the Voice of the Prophet, the Voice of God and the Voice of Suffering create the tension found in the midst of feelings of rejection and abandonment alongside the hope deep within the human heart that all will be well.

THE SEVEN LAST WORDS OF CHRIST
A ground breaking album, and encompasses so many aspects of RUTH FAZAL’S work. Scored for spoken voice, solo violin and symphony orchestra, the nine poems tell the story of the crucifixion through the eyes of the Apostle John; possibly Jesus’ closest friend while He was here on earth. Ruth responds spontaneously on the violin while the poems are being read and the orchestra plays.
SEVEN LAST WORDS -Instrumental The atmosphere is intense, as this purely instrumental version of ‘The Seven Last Words of Christ’ draws you into a personal meditation on the final hours of Jesus’ life. If you want to linger for an extended time at the Cross, this album is for you, as you enter into this version for improvised solo violin and orchestra.
